Like most New Zealand features, this highest peak of the Southern Alps has two names: Mt. Cook in English, and Mt. Aoraki in Maori. Here it is seen from the Hooker valley, with glacial moraine scree patterning the slopes on the right, above the tumultuous Hooker river.
